A 6 hour training event with Jacqui Abikoff, LICSW, MLADC

8:30am – 4:00pm on May 21, 2020

This training has been changed to remote only!

PRESENTATION:  Ethical practice is the foundation of effective treatment for substance use and other behavioral health disorders.  As the landscape within which we practice changes, with increased emphasis on integrated care, interdisciplinary treatment teams and the expansion of treatment into the criminal justice system, a strong understanding of the legal and ethical standards that govern our practice becomes increasingly critical.  This workshop will examine the sectors of client care which we need to navigate, the impact of care integration on confidentiality, communication and the defining of boundaries with shared clients and colleagues from a variety of disciplines.

As a result of this training, participants will:  learn strategies and guidelines for ethical decision-making; learn to examine their own values and priorities and how they impact ethical decision-making with respect to adherence to legal requirements, ethical standards and personal moral, religious and ethical beliefs and values; identify ethical conflicts that may arise in the counseling relationship and learn strategies for how to resolve them; learn to apply the codes of ethics that pertain to their practice to ethical conflicts they encounter.

Participants are invited to bring ethical conflicts they have encountered in their work for examination and discussion.
